How to Transfer a Car Title in Texas

  1. Sign Title: The seller must release ownership on the Certificate of Title.
  2. Execute Bill of Sale: Complete this Form 130-U compliant Bill of Sale with Federal Odometer Certification.
  3. Submit to DMV: The buyer presents this form to Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) to pay state vehicle sales tax and complete registration.

Statutory Notice (TX)

Under Texas law, the seller must file Form VTR-346 (Vehicle Transfer Notification) within 30 days of sale to prevent liability for civil fines, toll violations, or parking tickets.
